Hello, you.
And welcome to the energy of the new year! Do you feel it too?
We’ve crossed over the equinox and into the light (or dark, if you are in the southern half of the world) half of the year. Spring has arrived. And, even if still feels and looks like winter, the seasons are definitely shifting. The earth is waking and coming to life once again. The feeling of beginning again, of renewal + rebirth is palpable to me.
Up above, the moon is dark and seemingly hidden, as we enter a new moon cycle. And that also signals a new beginning. A new 28 day cycle of following the phases of the moon, reminding me that change is the only constant thing, that flowing is the rhythm that I dance to.
With the moon and spring, there is just so much newness right now, I had to sit down for a few minutes to bask in it all this morning. And one of the best ways I know to soak in the moment and all of the feelings is to write. So, here I am. 6:30 am Wednesday morning. Writing to you.
I cannot ignore the fact that I feel deeply connected to the energy of rebirth and renewal that is swirling around right now. It is as if I am rising up from the earth myself. And, today, with a new moon, I am also slowing way down to breathe in the moment and to take a step into a new cycle - one that lasts a whole year. From planting season, to growing season, to harvesting season, to resting season - and then back to planting season again at this time next year.
So, for me, today is the perfect time to feel the emptiness, the rebirth, the potential, and to set intentions. Internally, I am spending time planting the seeds of my intentions for the month and the year ahead. What do I want to grow this year? How do I want to grow? What new thing wants to rise from me? As the year continues on, I’ll care for my seeds, through the season of growth and thriving, and into the autumn, when I will harvest all that I have grown and learned. But, for now, my focus is the seeds. Sowing, planting, digging. Deep into my soul.
Under these new moon vibes, and with the energy of spring, I cast a vision for the year ahead and my own path forward. Where have I been? Where am I now? Where do I want to go? I’m not focused on the details or the destinations along the way, however. Simply the path that lies ahead and the unknown path that disappears around the corner. What does my path look like this year? Where is it? It is a road, a mountain trail, a seaside walk, a desert journey, an urban exploration?
So, that’s where I am today. And I just wanted to share it with you. There’s too much beginning right now to keep it to myself. There is a path that lies ahead, just waiting to unfold before us with each step, with each day, with each month, with each season. What will we see and experience and feel and share this year?
With that, I’ll take one last sip of coffee, send this to you, and then head off to work.
New moon blessings to you, my friend. And happy new year, too.
One step at a time, love. Enjoy the view all along the way.
xoxo. liz.
Hi Liz. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I enjoyed reading every word while having some rest after a busy day. Your note made me thinking about what I'm going to plant this year and what are my seeds. To be honest, I feel anxious about all the challenges and changes that are waiting ahead. But I'll slow down for now and, as you beautifully wrote, I'll put my focus on the seeds.
Many blessings and joy for you and your loved ones in the new year.
PS. Spontaneously decided to share a quote with you. "Maturity is when you can finally ride the ups and downs of life without getting tossed around by them. You don’t expect everything to be perfect. You know change is a constant. You don’t judge yourself when times get hard. You live in gratitude. You enjoy the good when it’s here".
Southern hemisphere: a seasonal change is here. Your words reasonated with my dark morning light as the rain-soaked earth calls me to start Autumn planting.
